The City of Delphos is an Equal Opportunity Employer.   SUMMARY: The Assistant Wastewater Superintendent is a skilled position involving assisting the superintendent in the total operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, lift stations and all programs related thereto including, but not limited to the Approved Pretreatment Program, the Combined Sewer Overflow Management Program and the Biosolids Management Program. This position involves assisting in the organization and direction of plant personnel. This position will be under the supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent, however, shall be familiar enough with the operating procedures to work and direct the operations of the facility relatively independent of constant supervision. This position will be required to represent the City of Delphos, and be responsible for all wastewater operations in the absence of the Superintendent.  RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to the following, the position performs other related duties as required to assist the Superintendent in all duties required by that position. Supervises and occasionally collects laboratory samples from the plant flows, streams and industries. Performs specialized and complex chemical, bacteriological and physical analysis of all flows related to the operation of the facility. Conducts and supervises less complex routine tests. Assists superintendent in the evaluation and interpretation of the testing results to assure compliance of the facility with all local, state and federal requirements. Performs industrial monitoring including laboratory analysis, facility inspections, and reporting; assists in facility and equipment planning; establishes and maintains external relationships with industries that are part of or become part of the City of Delphos Pretreatment Program; prepares and maintains monitoring and laboratory records; performs wastewater treatment functions as required. Coordinates with and assists the Superintendent in the direction and administration of the industrial monitoring and pretreatment program, including monitoring and incorporating all Federal, State and Local regulations. Assist in the writing and administering of all industrial user permits. Implement Toxicity Reduction Evaluation and Mercury Plan of Study for compliance with our mercury variance. Will also conduct additional testing and monitoring of plant effluent as required by our current or future NPDES Permits. Assist in implementation of and compliance with all other programs required by or related to the operation of the wastewater works. Attends periodic training courses, seminars and workshops and engages in independent study of all subjects related to the operation and compliance of the wastewater works.  REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and valid Ohio Drivers License. Must possess a valid Class III Ohio Wastewater Operators Certificate and can obtain any additional licenses that the Ohio EPA would require in the future. Will be required to be operator of record. SKILLS: Working knowledge of mechanical and operational principles for a variety of complex mechanical equipment, sampling and laboratory equipment and the maintenance of such equipment. Ability to maintain accurate and precise records. Ability to make mathematical computations with reasonable speed and accuracy. Basic knowledge of computer Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
